Organic Olive Oil – Organic Farming Crete / Greece.
Sustainable agriculture in Greece is becoming more and more important. A Cretan farmer who practices organic farming said to me: “Organic farming is a philosophy of life”. If you have worked for an organic olive oil manufacturer on Crete, then you know what that means. Hard work with a lot of physical human efforts. Quality and not the quantity plays the main role, but above all abandoning the use of pesticides and make use of pure nature. Less yield and rely on what the goddess Gaia (mother earth) wants to give us. These organic olive oil farmers want to share this philosophy of life with many people and hope that the enthusiasm for organic olive oil will grow. Attach importance to sustainable trade in harmony with nature. No use of machines that could injure the olive tree, but also the animals that live with the olive tree. These farmers hope to be able to change the world. According to Greek mythology, the goddess Gaia (mother earth) emerged from chaos. She is the first deity and wife of Uranus (heaven) and was the beginning of creation. The farmer told me, according to Greek mythology, the human soul goes to Uranos (heaven) and the body stays with mother earth, where everything comes into being. Why should we poison them? The olive tree is actually a very grateful tree and not that demanding. If they are not so greedy for yield, farmers could do without aids and pesticides. It is up to you to share or support this life philosophy of these farmers. Shouldn’t we all support our Gaia (Mother Earth)? We know our organic farmers ourselves. Behind every drop of organic olive oil lies their philosophy of life. They are official certified organic farmers, with awards. Some of them also make organic balsamic vinegar, organic honey, and organic olive oil soap.
The requirements for organic olive oil are very strict, because the neighbouring farmers are not allowed using pesticides.
I feel very sad when I go for walk through the olive groves and I see under the olive trees the burned earth burned from pesticides but huge is the pleasure when i see under the olive trees grow wildflowers. All olive oils on our Greek Market Square page correspond to the highest quality class “extra virgin” cold-pressed at up to 27 degrees. According to legal requirements, this means that the acidity of the oil must be below 0.8%. The exact details of the different oils and their flavours are described in the retailer’s product-descriptions in our shop system Greek Market Square. Some oils are flavoured with organic oranges, organic lemons, and organic herbs; these olive oils are more intended for salads. Enjoy our award winning olive-oils and a good appetite!
